Snap Strap from Tantus

About 6 weeks ago now, Tantus sent me a package of review items.  So far, we’ve loved the Tantus Plunge, and had mixed experience with the Tantus Curve, now it’s the turn of the Tantus Snap Strap.

I had really high hopes for the Snap Strap, my research had learned of a real vicious sting, and after experiencing the Plunge, I don’t mind admitting I was a little scared of exactly what it might bring.

The Snap Strap is a little short of 18 inches by 2 inches of prime Tantus silicone. Around an eighth of inch thick, it is super floppy.  This floppiness is what makes the Snap Strap so unique; I’ve not seen another paddle in any way similar.  The floppiness is what brings the pain, like a whip but 2 inches wide and silicone.  Eeeeeeek!

Because of my nervousity, I had asked M to warm me up a bit before we tried this out for the first time.  So it was that I came to bent over the arm of the sofa, trousers and underwear around my ankles, my bottom already reddened by a mixture of spanking devices.

“Are you ready now?”, M asked.  I grunt-nodded my readiness.

Holding the Snap Strap in her right hand, she stands side on to me, her left foot parallel with my left leg.  She drapes the Snap Strap across my back, letting the weight of the paddle rest on my shoulders, She slowly pulls it down my back, the silicone occasionally dragging at my skin.  As she pulls it down towards my hips, I feel myself involuntarily stiffen, anticipating the impact.

It didn’t come. I relax. And then THWACK!

The first impact wasn’t at all what I was expecting.  It was slappy, not snappy as I had been expecting.  Not so much sharp as short.  I think M was a little miffed too, as my initial grunt at being slapped turned into a hmmm. Kind of a grummmm if you will.

Clearly all was not as expected, and this brings us neatly to the problem with the Snap Strap.  It’s the very flexibility – the thing I thought was going to be so great is in fact it’s Achilles heel.  You see, it’s a little unpredictable.  The floppiness means that there is a certain knack to getting a good impact with this, and the striker needs to almost get in a rhythm.  A rhythm to make sure the Snap Strap does snap as it strikes, as it is all too easy to just catch the strap at the wrong time and up with a bit of a weedy flumph kinda strike instead of an ouchy stingy strike.

Or, looking at another way, is this not an Achilles heel but in fact a stroke of kinky genius?  Could it be that the Snap Strap is deliberately hard to control so that the spankee doesn’t know whether to expect a real sharp snap or a gentler tickley slap.  I’ll leave you to decide that.

There is without doubt room in our expansive hitty toy collection for the Snap Strap, it is after all, incredibly unique, and one strike out of ten bloody hurts!

Subs spanking scale scoreboard

Noise score: 7 – when it snaps it’s pretty impressive, but it takes more effort than many of its peers to achieve this

Tingle score: 6 – if every single strike lands correctly this would be much higher, but more often than not it’s just not doing it.

Pain score: 6 – not a patch on the Tantus Plunge, and again, sometimes very ouch but sometimes not.

Redness: 7 – it covers a good area, so the red after-mark is quite impressive, but you need a few decent strikes in a row to get it.

Comfort: 5 – sorry Tantus, the handle is a continuation of the strap, and so is flat and not overly comfortable to hold, it does get easier with larger hands, but with the need for precision when spanking, this really needs better design.
